What is
the Purpose of the R-22 Transition Course?
This course will satisfy the SFAR-73 (Special Federal
Aviation Regulation No. 73) training requirements for
the Robinson R-22 helicopter and provide the necessary
endorsements to act as Pilot in Command (PIC) of an
R-22.
How Long Will it Take?
The length of time required to complete the R-22 transition
course depends largely on your availability. It can
take as little as 2 days to complete the R-22 transition
course if a full schedule is maintained. Three days
is an average completion time.
Why 10 hours of Dual Instruction?
Per SFAR-73, a pilot may not act as Pilot in Command
of a Robinson R-22 unless that person has received 10
hours of dual flight instruction in the Robinson R-22
and an endorsement from an authorized instructor. Additional
flight and ground training is required on an annual
basis for pilots with less than 200 hours in helicopters,
50 of which must be in the R-22.
